June 10. Irzhi. For me, he was the most important person in the boarding house. Everything manifests in parallel—through his judgments and conclusions. A translator hiding from mobilization. A translator of Roth, Heidegger, Rilke, Trakl. He almost never left his room. He would walk around the lake. The aesthetics of being. Everyday hermeneutics.

June 14. Irzhi on Ms. Viki. Her garden thinks; it can move from place to place. The Alps imitate the Himalayas. Wild strawberries until the snow comes, but only a few berries a day. Stale, old fur coats can serve as furniture. Moths fly out of the credenza because Heidegger lives there.

June 15. At Irzhi’s. Rasta and Stronzitska came over from their rooms. Rasta is a Rastafarian guru. He’s being threatened with arrest again. He tends to the marijuana in Ms. Viki’s greenhouse. Ms. Viki accidentally ended up with some high-grade marijuana through a correspondence seed exchange, probably from someone in Holland. We smoked with him and Stronzitska. Rastaman vibration. Irzhi caught a wave. Stronzitska is an essayist from Vienna (she could have been a spy in the service of the Hapsburg house, Irzhi says). She smokes incessantly. And only Drum shag, but one paper isn’t enough for her cigarettes so she sticks two or three together in advance. Stronzitska has Raynaud’s syndrome. She brought her own blanket. Now she has all the blankets in the whole house because her hands and feet are always freezing. She was interested in me as a famous botanist, as a former friend of a world-famous model—Anna. She recorded an interview with me for her radio program. I wasn’t afraid to tell her about everything I’d seen in forbidden zones—provocative radio is her format. Things often happen only after Stronzitska tells about them. I refused to talk about Anna. She is afraid of moths. An invitation to a conference of opposition journalists from our country, Stronzitska is organizing the conference, it will take place in the boarding house where we live.

June 16. We went even farther into the mountains with Rasta and hired ourselves out to pick apples for a couple days. Discussions on drug-induced and sober ways of achieving visions. Attempts to analyze and systematize the visual laws (high optics) of vision. Rasta is the former European champion of cannabis reframing—two competitors go somewhere together, smoking weed the whole time, conjuring up each other’s fears, phobias, provoking obsessive ideas, manias, ulterior motives, and unjustified conclusions. Whoever leads their competitor to a level of reframing from which they can never return wins.

June 20. Life in the boarding house is straight out of the nineteenth century—that’s what it feels like. Our daily existence with our shared breakfasts and evening teas, the culture of preserves, the old paintings, everyone talking all at once, everyone having private conversations. Guests coming for a day or two. The absence of a storyline—there is no plot. Everything sort of stretches out in time, which ceases to be events any bigger than drinking tea or an abundance of moths at night.
